Seeing the World from Another Point of View

Discover what Emily, a little girl who is blind, sees when she watches The Wizard of Oz.™ You'll never see it the same way again yourself. To see more of Emily's Oz, visit http://xfin.tv/EmilysOzyt. #EmilysOz To view with video description click here: http://youtu.be/MaYmVomvtW4

Imagine a world in which you did not have the ability of sight. Its almost unimaginable, isn't it? Our world is almost completely visual. Art, the internet, film and television. All of these daily routines and rituals we take for granted. Without the gift of sight, how would you see your favorite films?

Enter the world of Emily. An imaginative and inspiring 7 year old girl who was born without the ability to see. Comcast and Legacy Effects took on the challenge of recreating Emily's favorite film, "The Wizard of Oz" in the unique way that Emily imagines it.

I applaud the marketing team at Comcast and the talented artists, technicians, directors and producers at Legacy Effects. Yes, this video content is to promote Comcast's Xfinity channel guide for the visually impaired, but it goes deeper than that. It causes you to think openly and further than what the screen takes you. How would you interpret "Star Wars" without sight, or how would you see your significant other if you could only use touch, sound, and taste? What do colors feel like?

As an artist, its important to look at the things in your own world as not only from your singular POV, but be open to new perspectives like Emily's. This is how you take the elements that you love and turn them in to something the world has never seen before. Be open and willing to adapt to the world around you. Train yourself to un-see what you have seen. What other ways can subject matter be interpreted? What angles have you not tried?

When traveling the uncharted waters of your creativity, shed away the years, the doubt and the jadedness that comes with adult life. Go into it with sharpened senses, with optimism and enthusiasm for the world like Emily. Be curious and cultivate some new ideas.

Hold those stylus' high and make your mark.
